Brilliant books for kids who love animals!

There are some fabulous books and series out there for kids who love animals and birds! Here's a a small selection of our favourite reads that either advocate for animal welfare or feature some fantastic animal characters! What are your favourites?

The Last Wild (9+) by Piers Torday is the first in a fabulous trilogy, an exciting and captivating eco adventure set in a dystopian England.

Twitch by M.G. Leonard is a wonderful page-turner for age 9+ covering a range of important themes from protecting habitats and birdlife to stranger danger, bullying and friendship. The sequels are equally enthralling!

Charlotte’s Webb by E.B. White (7+) is a classic tale of true friendship on the farm, beloved by so many! 

My Name Is River (9+) by Emma Rea is an action packed story set in Wales and the Amazon rainforest, focusing on fighting for animal rights and for what you believe in.

Nell And The Cave Bear (5+) by Martin Brown is a sweet story of friendship in ancient times, beautifully illustrated.

Big Sky Mountain by Alex Millway is the first in a delightful series with a strong eco message, with a cast of wonderful animal characters!

More Than A Sheep (3+) by Bethany Christou follows a young sheep who is so determined to be different that in the end her many friends have to come to the rescue!

Sophie’s Adventures by Dick King-Smith is another well loved classic, perfect for readers aged 5+, a compilation of short stories about a girl who loves animals of all shapes and sizes and longs to have a farm of her own.

Red Panda Rescue by Jess Butterworth is the first in the lovely Adventure Club series for 7+ that focuses on conservation. Its determined protagonist helps different animals in some exciting locations.

A Piglet Called Truffle (5+) by Helen Peters belongs to a sweet series that sees young Jasmine help and rescue all sorts of animals and birds.

The Royal Rabbits of London (5+) by Santa Montefiore is the first in a sweet, engaging series featuring a cast of brave but entertaining rabbits, the secret defenders of the royal family!

What The Ladybird Heard (3+) is a fabulous rhyming picture book set on a farm by Julia Donaldson and Lydia Monks, with a very funny ending, perfect for bedtime reading.
