Festive books for the holiday season

Our stack of Christmas reads is one of our favourite things about the festive season, from timeless Christmas picture books which are read over and over, to brand new fiction for the Christmas season. Read on to find our about just a few of our favourite Christmas books for kids of all ages...

Luna by Holly Webb (6+) is a magical time-slip adventure from best-selling author Holly Webb, with a wonderful wintry setting and an exciting adventure, perfect for animal fans. 

The Snow Dragon, by Abi Elphinstone (3+)  A moving adventure full of hope set in a gloomy orphanage where daydreaming is banned and skipping is forbidden. For one patient little girl, just when things seem at their bleakest, magic awaits in the swirling, snow-filled air.

Juniper's Christmas by Eoin Colfer (9+) is a classic festive adventure about the magic of Santa Claus, set in North London and the North Pole, from the bestselling author of Artemis Fowl. As the countdown to Christmas begins, Juniper must find her mother, restore the festive spirit and bring to life the true magic of the season.

The Miracle On Ebenezer Street by Catherine Doyle (9+) is a fabulously festive story about Christmas, family, and magic, in which George and his Scrooge of a dad are soon swept on an incredible adventure to Christmases past, present and future. 

Dasher, by Matt Tavares (3+) The beautiful story of a little doe with a wish in her heart, who takes off in pursuit of the life she wants to live with the help of a powerful Christmas wish.

A Boy Called Christmas, by Matt Haig (7+) Fantastically funny and wonderfully magical, the first in Matt Haig’s brilliant Christmas trilogy is a perfect festive read.

How Winston Delivered Christmas, by Alex T Smith (3+) Featuring the most charming illustrations, this Christmas adventure story has 24 chapters to be read each night throughout advent, along with a festive craft or activity for each day. It’s guaranteed to be a family favourite for years.

Christmas in Exeter Street, by Diana Hendry (3+) This beautifully illustrated and atmospheric picture book about a house packed full of guests on Christmas Eve perfectly captures how this very special time of year is all about giving and sharing.

Grandpa Christmas, by Michael Morpurgo (3+) A powerful message about protecting the environment is at the heart of this beautiful story about a grandpa’s wish for his granddaughter to live in a better world. 

The Christmasaurus, by Tom Fletcher (5+) A thrilling magical adventure that’s all about friendship and families, packed with sleigh bells, singing elves and flying reindeer. 

The Night I Met Father Christmas, by Ben Miller (9+) This is a modern Christmas classic, full of magic and wonder, complete with flying reindeer, elves and a secret North Pole workshop.

The Snowman by Michael Morpurgo (6+): a gorgeous re-telling of a timeless classic. The Snowman and James take to the skies on a magical adventure where they meet someone very special.
