Wonderful winter reads

Winter is always a perfect time to curl up with a hot drink, a cosy blanket and a good book! From heartwarming tales of friendship to adventurous journeys through snow-covered realms, sparkling, wintry books really capture the spirit of the season. Here are just a few of our favourite winter reads that continue to captivate long after the snowflakes have melted away...

Sky Song by Abi Elphinestone (9+): a magical wintry adventure story set in a snowy kingdom ruled by an evil Ice Queen. 

Children Of Winter by Berlie Doherty (9+): a thoughtful tale of three siblings who find themselves caught up in the plight of three other siblings sheltering from the plague as well as the snow hundreds of years earlier. 

Witch In Winter by Kaye Umansky (7+): a delightful, magical story that is part of a bewitchingly funny series with a truly wonderful cast of characters. 

Wishyouwas by Alexandra Page (9+): It's 1952 in smog-shrouded London, and Penny discovers the tiny guardians of lost mail. Can she help to keep them safe?

Frost Hollow Hall by Emma Carroll (9+):  a thrilling historical novel and a haunting, wintry tale of love, loss and forgiveness. 

Luna by Holly Webb (6+): A lovely story perfect for animal fans that whisks readers back in time to a snowy village and a daring bear cub rescue.

The Wolf Wilder by Katherine Rundell (9+):  Fairy tale and history merge seamlessly in this lyrical novel about love and resilience set in the snowy wilderness of Russia.

A Kitten Called Holly by Helen Peters (6+): A gorgeous, heartwarming story of the rescue of an abandoned kitten at Christmas time. 

Snow Foal by Susanna Bailey (8+): a beautiful and heart-wrenching adventure story of hope, healing and unexpected friendship.

The Snow Ghost by Tony Mitton (3+): flying through the swirling, snow-filled skies, Snow Ghost searches for a place to call home in this beautifully illustrated, heartwarming picture book. 

The Snowman by Michael Morpurgo (6+): a gorgeous re-telling of a timeless classic. The Snowman and James take to the skies on a magical adventure where they meet someone very special.

The Clockwork Crow by Catherine Fisher (9+): a magical story of snow and stars, this is a mysterious gothic Christmas tale set in a frost-bound Victorian country mansion.
